frica Awareness Week 2024! The African Studies Program presents
30 Years of Democracy in South Africa, a panel with Chipo Dendere,
Wellesley College, and Asafika Mpako, Afrobarometer, on Tuesday, April 16, from 12:30-1:45pm,
in the Rondileau Student Union, Room119. The speakers will join us via Zoom.
Chipo Dendere
is a Zimbabwean born scholar of political science who studies factors that
influence party survival and democratization in the developing world. She
completed her Bachelor of Science Degrees in Political Science and Psychology
at Linfield College, OR, and earned her PhD in Political Science at Georgia
State. Her doctoral dissertation, and subsequent book manuscript, addresses the
impact of voter exit (via emigration or withdrawal from politics) on the
survival of dominant parties.Â
Asafika Mpako is the
communications coordinator for southern Africa at Afrobarometer. Previously,
she worked at the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation on enhancing
democracy, governance, and human rights in Africa. She launched her career as a
global education intern in the Emerging Global Leaders Internship Program at
the World Affairs Council, Washington, D.C. Asafika holds a bachelor's degree
from the University of Cape Town and master's degrees from Peking University
and the London School of Economics and Political Science.Â
