Join the BSU Irish Studies
Program for our virtual Spring 2021
Irish Cultural Heritage Day. Our speaker will be Dr. Katherine O'Callaghan of
UMass Amherst, who will deliver a lecture entitled The Soundscape of
James Joyce's “Sirens."
Katherine O’Callaghan lectures
on James Joyce, modernism, Irish literature, and the role of music in novels at
UMASS Amherst. She received her PhD from University College, Dublin. A member
of the Board of Trustees of the International James Joyce Foundation, she is
the editor of Essays on Music and Language in Modernist Literature: Musical
Modernism, and co-editor with Oona Frawley of Memory Ireland, Volume IV:
James Joyce and Cultural Memory. A recent article, “The Riddle of the Brocken
Spectre: Reading Finnegan’s Wake on the Top of Croagh Patrick,” was
published in the James Joyce Quarterly.
