On Thursday,
October 6 from 12:30-1:45 pm in Weygand South 1047, composer and lyricist Santiago
Veros will speak on Music and Culture of Argentina.
Argentine composer, Santiago Veros began his professional
career as a choral composer, writing for the children's choir of the
municipality of Pilar in Buenos Aires. Santiago soon internationalized his art,
writing for choirs in the Philippines, Chile, USA, South Africa, New Zealand,
Taiwan, and several countries in Europe. In 2018 he became the first Latin
American composer to write music for the largest choral festival in the world,
the Europa Cantat 2018, held in Tallinn, Estonia. Under his philosophy of
joining borders, he has created virtual choirs with people from all over the
world, built a global consortium called "The Choral Club" and created
works under humanitarian slogans. Currently Santiago Veros works full-time as a
composer and also offers workshops to encourage the creation of new music and
to write music in a community way.
The Music Department is hosting Santiago Veros at BSU for
the week of October 3-7. In addition to his talk, he will be working with the
BSU Chorale, talking to world music classes, and presenting about his
composition process.
The October 6th
talk, sponsored by the Minnock Institute for Global Engagement and the Music
Department, is open to the BSU Community and the public.
