Thursday, April 25, Bridgewater State University’s Maxwell Library will host an
event on hockey—its history of where it came from and how it developed, its
violence (particularly in the 1970s), its place in the politics of the Cold War,
participation of women, and race, identity, and the globalization of the sport.
Dr. Andrew Holman, Professor of History and hockey aficionado, will present a
lecture revolving around his newly published book, Hockey: A Global History. This event begins at 7 p.m. in the
Maxwell Library’s Heritage Room on the first floor.
Dr. Holman is a professor of history and the director of
Canadian Studies at Bridgewater State University. His publications include, Canada’s Game: Hockey and Identity and The Same but Different: Hockey in Quebec.
His presentation will explore the myriad of themes found in his newest
publication on the history of hockey.
