Join Canadian Studies for the first event in the Voices Across the Border virtual speaker series: Crime, Policing, and Anti-Black Racism in Canada and the United States.

In the past year, the killing of George Floyd and the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement in North America have elevated the issue of anti-Black racism in criminal justice matters to the top of the political agenda and re-energized a widespread movement for reform. This panel will explore and compare the contours of anti-Black racism in Canada and the United States and assess efforts to institute real and lasting change in the realm of criminal justice. Panel members will speak briefly about their own research, which will be followed by a moderated Q & A period.

The Canadian Studies program is proud to host the first event in the VOICES ACROSS THE BORDER speaker series, virtual panel discussions hosted by BSU Canadian Studies, Brock University (Ontario), and Niagara University (NY). The panelists for this event are Dr. Simon Black, Department of Labour Studies, Brock University; Dr. Michael Durfee, Department of History, Niagara University; and Dr. Jakari Griffith, Department of Management, BSU.

Dr. Andrew Holman, Coordinator of Canadian Studies, will moderate. Panel members will speak briefly about their own research, followed by a Q & A period.

This event is open to the university communities and the public. Join the Zoom meeting using the link below.
