In Oscar Wilde’s “trivial comedy for serious people,” two young men have taken to bending the truth in order to put some excitement into their lives. John Worthing has invented a brother, Earnest, whom he uses as an excuse to leave his dull life behind to visit Gwendolyn. Inspired by the excitement that John’s dishonest life is bringing him, his friend, Algernon Montcrieff decides to take the name Earnest when visiting Worthing's young and beautiful ward, Cecily. Their web of deceit comically unravels when they all end up together in the country.
