The Minnock Institute for Global Engagement (MIGE) at BSU and the
National Committee on United States-China Relations invite the BSU community
and the public to a ZOOM and livestream event: CHINA TOWN HALL 2020, a National
Conversation on China, to be held on Tuesday, November 10 from 6-8 pm. This marks the 6th year for
Bridgewater State University to host China Town Hall.
Dr.
Elanah Uretsky, Associate Professor, International and Global Studies, Brandeis
University, will speak for BSU on The
Benefits of Health Diplomacy in the Age of a Pandemic on ZOOM from 6-7 pm. Dr.
Uretsky is a medical anthropologist who is also broadly trained in public
health. Her research and teaching take a critical anthropologic approach to
examining global health responses to disease, with a specific focus on China.
“China was caught off guard…at the beginning of
the COVID-19 pandemic. But building on lessons learned…they mobilized the
resources necessary to get the virus under control in a matter of months. What
lessons can and should the US and other countries be learning from China about
how to deal with this pandemic as we enter our eighth month of living with
COVID-19?”
Dr. Uretsky’s talk will be followed by a national webcast
conversation on livestream from 7-8 pm with Ray Dalio, the founder, co-chief investment officer, and
co-chairman of Bridgewater Associates, LP, the largest hedge fund in the world.
Ray Dalio and Bridgewater have been deeply involved in the evolution of the
Chinese economy and markets for 36 years.
With the
recent downturn in US-China relations, it is timely to address how relations
will change after the election. Sponsored by the Minnock
Institute for Global Engagement and the Asian Studies Program.
