The Bridgewater Communities for Civil Rights, the Bridgewater Council on Aging, and Bridgewater State University present Asian Americans: History, Memories, and Social Justice, a two-part event with discussions of the past, present, and future of the Asian American Community in Massachusetts, on May 10 and 24 from 6-7:30 p.m.

Part I, Monday, May 10: “Asian Immigration Over the Past 200 Years”

Tackey Chan, State Representative for the 2nd Suffolk District, will deliver the opening remarks.

Emily Williams, Elder Affairs Director of the Bridgewater Council on Aging; and Vernon Domingo, PhD., a BCCR member and BSU Professor Emeritus, will introduce speakers Wing-kai To, Ph.D., Assistant Provost for Global Engagement and Professor of History at Bridgewater State University, and author of Chinese in Boston, 1870-1965Jean Wu, Ph.D. Professor Emeritus in American Studies at Tufts University, 2019 Asian American Commission Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, and co-editor of Asian American Studies Now: A Critical Reader; and Philip Chong, President and CEO of Quincy Asian Resources, Inc.

Part II, Monday, May 24: “Asian American Stories and Social Justice”

Dr. Wing-kai To will introduce speakers Stephanie Fan, retired educator, community leader, consultant, and organizer of the group Greater Boston Asian American Seniors for Peace and Justice;  and Michael Liu, Ph.D., Research Fellow in the Institute of Asian American Studies at UMass Boston, and author of Forever Struggle: Activism, Identity and Survival in Boston's Chinatown

Open to the BSU community and the public.
